Going downhill was very hazardous for the horse teams, as well as the driver, in trying to hold back a sled full of logs. Martin Lassiter is the driver, and the man in the plaid shirt, one of several men on each side, is spreading dry burnt sand under the runners of the sled to try and stop it from sliding too fast.
